General's Kitchen 6601
Super food and super service. I got breakfast here with my boyfriend and it was delicious. Very homey feel, super friendly wait staff.
Best coffee in OC, hotcakes are delicious and crispy bacon. Super friendly staff new location is roomy but is too dark for my taste
I thought the food was great the waitress was excellent very good experience would recommend this restaurant.
Very quick services, reasonable prices for a tourist town. Would go back to again. Daughter loved her pancakes and my eggs were good as well.
Pretty fast service and seating
Have to wait outside
Dirty hats on the wall to honor veterans but kinda gross to sit under
Two plus a baby was about $35 out the door
Coffee was good on the strong-side the way we like it!
Kids silver dollar pancakes comes with about 12 mini pancakes Very tasty!
Way Too much butter on the toast and only one jelly packet per 2 pieces
But Overall very good We will be back
Great ending before heading home. Creamed chipped beef is exactly as others have mentioned! Melts in your mouth with the biscuits. My husband had the ham/cheese omelette and was very good also. But I would make a recommendation to offer fried potatoes other than hash browns. Clean with nice atmosphere. Seemed to be a lot of locals eating also which is a great sign! Prices little high but in sync with other similar local restaurants
Place was packed when I went but they got you in pretty quick , food was amazing I recommend the house specialty also for how busy it was the food was served in a quick fashion. The only downside to me is that there is no public restrooms but all in all great spot to go especially if you need to cure the wicked hangover from the night before.
Great food good price wait staff attentive
Cream chip beef is awesome! Great service and food. There will be a wait sometimes to get in as with most great OC breakfast establishments.
Food is excellent. They give you plenty of food
The service was great, and our meals were good. The wait outside was very hot as it was summer time. There's no waiting inside here. But a line at a restaurant isn't a bad sign. All the prices were fair, too. Also, free Wi-Fi is nice.
Our breakfast was awesome. The chipped beef OMG it was so good. I had to get some to go. That's how good it was. The pancakes was nice and fluffy eggs was just the way we ordered it.
The food is good but its a little more than I would expect to pay for breakfast food outside of a resort area. We go here every year on our last day at OC and there is always a line. Don't let that scare you to much though because it moves quickly. It only took us about 15 minutes to be seated and that was with a party of 8. If you get a chance to try it try the sriracha sausage omelette.
Well the General was on his game this morning. There are a lot of different places to get breakfast in OCMD but this place is a must! The creamed chip beef is not overated in the least, you need to atleastt get a side order. The western breakfast is an excellent choice, the strip steak is legit and not a skimpy cut of fatty meat. Fast service, great food, comfortable atmosphere and good prices. Go here!
Went here for breakfast one morning. I love breakfast! Everything here was delicious and fresh. Grits were nice and soft, the scrapple was darn good. Really simple breakfast choices but good none the less!
Can't beat the House of creamed chipped beef. Line out front for a reason. It moves a lot faster than it seems.
If you're looking for a simple, no frills good hearty breakfast, this is the place. This is my go to breakfast whenever I'm down here. Compared to other breakfast spots in that area, this is a much better option. Cream chipped beef and biscuits were delicious. Price was reasonable. Wait time was normal ticket times for a consistent flow restaurant (12 minute ticket times). They do close around 1pm, so if you're not a morning person (unlike myself lol) you will never get a chance to experience hearty breakfast food.
Great food, really fast service!
This is a diner in a space that used to be an upscale night club. It's both cool and a little kooky. They've been in business for 50 years, just not all in the same place. The staff knows what they're doing and eggs are eggs. I haven't been there for lunch, but it is a safe breakfast bet.
I've been around Ocean City for decades and I can say without a doubt that I've just have the best breakfast I've ever had at the General's Kitchen. The Sausage Ham and Cheese Omelette was perfectly stuffed, never wanting for cheese or a bit of meat. Hashbrown's were done, crispy, hot with the biscuit warm and moist. Even the coffee had a great taste, I found myself just drinking it black. We were seated quickly, menus were under the glass of the table and we are suspecting the cook is a mind reader because our meal came out way earlier than expected. (as if he had already started cooking it before we even got out of the car.) I had this review at 4 stars but honestly I've got to go back and give it all 5, this is the place I'll have my breakfast and where I'll bring my guests. Don't miss this one.
4 1/2 stars. I'm a breakfast fan so I had this place on my radar while vacationing in Ocean City for a few days. Parking was no problem in their private lot or street parking. The business recently located to a larger place by the friendly head chef from New Jersey and this place is packed during the summer - a line out the door for the famous corn beef chipped gravy.
It was off season so we had no wait whatsoever. I selected the corn beef hash which was just average but ordered the side of chipped beef - which is everything it's made out to be and was bomb over my soft light biscuit. Our waiter was decent but I really enjoyed conversing with the head chef who I later found out his girlfriend worked at the front desk at the Marriott I was staying at.
Highly suggest the General's for breakfast and definitely suggest getting the chipped beef for your toast, biscuit or chicken fried steak. My mouth is salivating - just writing this review lol.
If you're in OCMD, make sure to stop at the General's Kitchen for breakfast! The Chipped Beef is amazing, definitely a must have!
Stopped in to the "new" General's location for the first time while on my way home from a conference in Ocean City. As usual, I went with their famous cream chipped beef, having it served over rye toast. And as usual I wasn't disappointed! Cream chipped beef is their specialty, and they know how to do it right! The coffee was pretty good, they're quick with the refills, and even offer a to-go cup so you can have more for the road. Service was just fine, as is the pricing. Hoorah for casual, rib-sticking food serving legendary institutions!
I had the cream chipped beef with a side of scrapple. Everything was delicious and the server was very friendly. The price is a little expensive but it's a staple in OC and good; therefore, they can get away with it. I'll go again.
Best hangover relief ever ... Amazing chipped beef
Best chipped beef ever....favorite breakfast spot in the summer.
Great Creamed Chipped Beef.
The best place to go for breakfast, the people there are just awesome. I love a diner setting. The food tastes great. I could not imagine eating somewhere else
Owner very nice!
Just ate another great breakfast at General. The omelet was huge and loaded with ham and cheese.
One new item I had was the turkey sausage. It was packed with great flavor.
We've been going to the GK for years and consider the French toast and waffles the best we've had anywhere, bar none. Most of the waitstaff are friendly but there are a couple that are downright gruff. If you're looking to be greeted enthusiastically this is not the place for you but if a good hearty meal at a great value is what you're seeking, this is the place you should go.
Had an excellent breakfast experience here. The menu is quite extensive. I Had pancakes and an omelette. The food arrived quickly and was freshly prepared. The portions are huge and the price was right. Looking forward to my next visit.
Stopped back here today with my co-workers and as usual the meal was perfect.
The omelet I had was huge. Bacon cooked to perfection.
The staff is always friendly and the service is fast. Way to go Generals! Best breakfast in OC
There was a wait but only a few minutes. Our waitress was nice and speedy. The building is big which is nice. The chipped beef was a little tasteless but good overall. I like this place and would recommend it!
Tried the new location last week. Saw the same great staff and ate the same great food. It was a Friday morning at 9:15 and we had to wait about 10 minutes. By the time we left there was a considerable line.
Good price, great food, and excellent service what else can I say!!
Great food at a decent price!
We had heard some negative reviews of Generals Kitchen since the move, but decided to go anyway. It was always great in the past.
We arrived around 9 on a Saturday. It was crowded, but no line. But much better then the old place.
The service was fast and the food was good at a great price!
The General's Kitchen was never a destination for those seeking haute cuisine, and that was just fine with the legions of admirers who lined up at the Generals door every morning throughout the season and even when the weather turned cold. The General's served good basic fare in its old location in the Beachmark Hotel for so many years that it is pointless to count. When the Beachmark canceled their lease last year it was a statewide scandal.
This year The General's opened its doors in its new location under the Skybar at 66th on Ocean Highway. While some things have changed (there is a new Siracha omelette and fruit toppings for the pancakes), what you loved about the General's has stayed the same.
The old location boasted decor that had not changed since the era of disco, and that, combined with walls covered in baseball caps, gave the place a unique funky feel. In moving into the new location (which seems to have had an outer space theme) the ownership decided not to change what was there; rather, they simply layered the hats and the the cherished 9/11 tribute to the new walls, creating a whole new kind of funky.
The food remains exactly what it has always been and what you come to the General's to get - creamed chipped beef, basic breakfast food and simple lunch fare. On our recent visit my corned beef hash was suitably hashy and bereft of any needless foodie frippery. My wife's eggs came with a veritable mountain of crispy bacon, and our toast and grits were exactly as anticipated.
Our waitress was efficient and courteous and kept my coffee cup filled. She was open and friendly without wasting time. And while this really should not be important, she spoke with English with a local accent. While legal immigration is a wonderful thing, it has made me sad that it seems like fewer and fewer of the service jobs in OC are being filled by local folks. Gone are the days when local residents and college kids on break worked the summers away in the OC's restaurants. Its nice that the General's harkens back to those times.
Just an updated review since the move - it is wholly BIZARRE to be in this place in the setting of the old Galaxy 66. I'm sure everyone is reporting that. Menu same, quality same, service same, staff largely the same just a weird ambiance that is not what it has been the last 34 years. I don't care for chipped beef myself oddly so I get the corned beef hash and eggs every time. It's great as always and my eggs are perfectly poached light like I like them. Service is fabulous as always. They plan to down-date the decor to more suitable surroundings this year - be interesting to see how they pull that off. The best news - it seats dozens more tables than the old location and it's a bit closer at 66th instead of 75th. I'm told there are still lines out the door. Remains my favorite joint for breakfast in OC. I hope it always will be and have no doubt it won't.
Not remotely humbly submitted this day,

Both breakfast and lunch are great! Love the new location and friendly service. Had the turkey bacon club which was HUGE! Definitely will be back!
Visited today 8/30/15, and as always food was great! The new location is great, seats way more people. Still lines out the door! Our waitress left something to be desired. Didn't really care for her. She seemed like she was aggravated to be working and all around not very friendly. Which is surprising because everytime we've been there, the service has been fantastic.
One word. Delicious. This place is a family tradition and the creamed chipped beef on a biscuit is one of a kind. The new place threw me off they are across the street from where they used to be. Great new place but I miss the ambience of the hole in the wall. Will be back again no doubt.
We've dined here many times over the years and honestly it was always great. Full hearty breakfast for the family, always local characters hanging out drinking coffee. We haven't been to the new location but I'm sure based on the reviews it's the same. Nothing lasts forever but give it time for the proper dust coating to be on the hanging hats
Much nicer digs then the tiny, cramped area on 75th st. Still the same menu with a few additions, my traveling companion and I ordered a waffle and a cream chipped beef omelette and split it, great combo. Coffee is always fresh and delicious. I teetered on four stars as it isn't quite a perfect dining experience, not the friendliest service in town and often a very long wait, but definitely the best breakfast in all of OC.
Great creamed chip beef at good prices. I've been a patron for over 10 yrs...
Have been going to the General's Kitchen for well over a decade when visiting OCMD on vacation. Every year I look forward to having their creamed chipped dried beef for breakfast. Even though their location changed this year, the good food and friendly staff has stayed constant.
My family has been coming here for going on 20 years. Staff is very efficient and food arrives speedily, hot and always delicious!
This was our first visit to General Kitchen and it was a wonderful experience. The creamed chip beef was the BEST, just like home made. Mary, our waitress, was top-notch. We will be sure to go there every time we come to the beach.
Food tastes great though. The chipped Beef Omelette and Biscuit was incredible.
The Best thing going
What country ham, grits, and red eye gravy is to the south, cream chipped beef is to the eastern shore. And General's Kitchen is it's epicenter. Luckily I made it in before the line got too long, and was quickly seated by the service window. The waitress wasn't far behind. I ordered the House Special, which was cream chipped beef over my choice of toast or biscuit (I went with the biscuit made on premises), and hash browns. It arrived just a few minutes later and man, was it good. The cream sauce was not too thick, not too light, and wasn't greasy in the least. It was smooth without lumps, and had a full flavor without tasting like flour. The chipped beef had great texture and flavor as well. (Nothing like the beef jerky you'd find at a lesser establishment.) It was delicious in every respect. If you want a taste of the best of the eastern shore and the creamed chipped beef by which all others should be measured. Run, don't walk, to General's Kitchen.
Very tasty food, and lots of it. Good value, not cheap but very reasonable. Excellent service, attentive but not pushy. If I'm in Ocean City at breakfast time, this is where I eat.
excellent service, excellent food good price. Under 50 buck for a family of 5.
